Café Cruz

Café Cruz has been a favorite dining place for area residents and out-of-towners for over 14 years. Its atmosphere, menu selections and congenial staff are an ideal combination for enjoying a casual meal or celebrating a special occasion.

The restaurant offers something extra for every event. Guests enjoy white tablecloth service in the spacious dining room. They see the chefs working their magic in the open copper-backed kitchen. Guests share cocktails and appetizers with friends in the well-stocked bar and delight in open air meals on the heated patio. For banquets and other special occasions, the lush garden room is an ideal choice. These elements, combined with the chef’s tasty and imaginative creations and attentive service, blend to make pleasurable dining experiences at Café Cruz.

Chef and owner Steve Wilson has crafted a distinctive gourmet style that he refers to as "New American Cuisine." His approach highlights the flavors and cooking styles found in North America's diverse cultures and regions. He uses the best fresh organic produce, sustainable seafood and natural meats and fowl.

Menu items feature such local items as fresh-baked bread from award-winning Gayle’s Bakery in Capitola, handmade cheeses from Point Reyes and Sonoma, and frozen treats from a Santa Cruz favorite, Polar Bear Ice Cream. Menu favorites include Grilled Applewood-smoked Artichokes, Harris Ranch Skirt Steak Marsala, & Spit-roasted Fulton Valley Natural Chickens. Featured seasonal specials are accented by produce from our vibrant local Farmers’ Markets.

Steve’s interest in cooking began as a teenager growing up in Pennsylvania. His early experiences in kitchens on the east coast and in Santa Cruz sparked a passion for blending regional flavors with locally harvested foods. Over the years, he has perfected his technique to embrace contemporary global cuisines. Steve loves cooking (and eating) and never stops striving to keep the menu exciting and innovative.

Owner Steve Wilson and the Staff at Café Cruz are committed to the environment and to the greater Santa Cruz Community. As a certified Green Business since 2006, Café Cruz was one of the first on board with the County food composting program. Café Cruz is an avid supporter of area schools and the programs of many community organizations. Steve was the 2003 recipient of Second Harvest’s Hunger Fighters’ Award.
